Make sure you file your tax returns - only 8 days left!

There are only eight days left to file your tax return, so make sure you don't leave it for the last minute. The deadline is November 21st, 2014.

Here is everything you need to know before submitting your tax return.

First of all, if you don’t have a tax number already, you need to apply for one with the South African Revenue Services before submitting your tax return. To get a tax number, you will need to submit the IT77 registration form, which is available online and in every Sars branch.
You will also need to provide a certified copy of your ID, passport, or driver’s license, a recent bill showing your name and address, and three months’ bank statements in orginal, stamped by the bank. You should submit all documents at the nearest Sars branch and you will receive your tax number within 10 days.
You can choose to submit your tax return in the following ways:
- by going to the nearest Sars branch and submitting it personally;
- online through eFiling;
- by submitting it return by post.
If you want to file your tax return online, you need to have the latest version of the internet browser, Adobe Flash Player version 10.3.0 or Adobe Reader 9. You can download all the latest versions from www.sarsefillng.co.za.
Before being able to submit your tax return online, you need to register for eFiling on www.sarsefiling.co.za. In order to register, you will need to provide your identity number, your income tax registration number, and your bank account information.
You will need the following information to complete your tax return:
- The employees’ tax certificate issued by the employer (IRP5);
- Any documentation related to the income received or accrued;
- Documentation regarding the medical expenses and contributions paid;
- Documentation regarding your retirement annuity fund contributions.
