Use these six tips to find the perfect wine glass

by , 26 June 2014

If you enjoy drinking wine, it makes sense to invest in some glasses to enjoy it in.

After all, a good quality wine glass can actually make a difference to the taste and the whole experience.

So what should you look for in a wine glass? Read on to find out…

Here are the six essentials of wine glass buying

Tip #1: Find a glass that suits both white and red wine

This will give you greater flexibility with your new glasses. You may prefer red wine, but friends over for a meal prefer white. Buying a glass that works for both means you can give everyone the same wine glass.

Tip #2: Don’t pay too much for your wine glasses

It’s easy to spend a bit more than you first thought when you buy new glasses. But make sure you don’t pay over the odds. It’ll take the enjoyment out of using them if you’re scared they’re going to break.

Tip #3: Be careful selecting the thickness and colour of the glass

You want to buy wine glasses that have thin glass. This will help you taste the wine better, Dorothy J Gaiter and John Brecher write in the Wall Street Journal. Not only that, a thick glass is heavy to hold.

Equally so, you want to see your wine, so always buy clear glass.

Tip #4: Look for a large volume glass

Opt for glasses that hold 500ml at a minimum. This gives you wine, red or white, enough room to breathe. And enough room for you to swirl the contents around in.

Tip #5: Look for a glass that curves in at the top

This will focus any aromas from the wine, ultimately leading to you enjoying it better.

Tip #6: Look for a glass with a long stem

A long stem equals easier holding. If you drink a white wine, it also means you can avoid your hand inadvertently heating up the contents of the glass.

So there you have it, six tips to help you find the perfect wine glass.
