Q&A: New opportunities to trade Bitcoin and Cannabis
Q. "I heard on the news last week, that soon we will be able to trade Bitcoin futures and that it will be a major game changer for traders all around the globe. Can you share a few details about this and when the futures will be available to trade?"

A company called Bakkt which is a subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange - parent company - Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) has given the go ahead for the Bakkt Bitcoin futures to open on 23 September 2019.

This is indeed a bitcoin revolution. Here's how they will work:
1. The daily futures contract will be margined. This means you will be exposed to the full value of a bitcoin and pay a lot less for it.
2. As it is a futures contract, the price to list will be based on a future expected price – what’s called a 'forward pricing curve' of up to 12 months.
3. These futures contracts will be completely independent from unregulated markets. This means we'll be able to buy the futures using US dollars, rands etc...
4. Having these Bakkt bitcoin futures contracts available means everyone can profit…
- Retail investors
- Traders
- Brokers
- Hedge Funds
- Banks

Q. “Hi Timon, I have a big portion of my investments in platinum… I was worried about the article you sent on Monday where you said you expect another 50% drop on the metal. Do you perhaps have any insight on anything that could help push the platinum price higher to put my mind at ease?"
Yes, remember that the analysis I do is based on the information I have already in the charts and where it is most likely to head next.
Platinum would just need one news catalyst to break out of the downtrend and into a new and established uptrend.
One catalyst that could be Platinum’s saving grace is it ends up playing a role in the lithium battery industry.
In fact, Anglo American Platinum wants to develop a lithium battery for electric vehicles (EV) that uses platinum instead of cobalt and nickel.
If the rise of EV accelerates, this could create a multi-billion dollar source of demand for platinum which will most definitely push the price up higher.
We’re already seeing Amplats and Platinum Group making agreements to invest up to $4 million in Lion Battery Technologies to find a way to use the metal, keep batteries lighter, cooler and with a better driving range.
As soon as we have more news about platinum’s prospects with the battery industry, I will send out a new analysis on where the price is more likely to head next.

Q. "Apart from AB In Bev are there any promising South African companies that are looking to list in the near future?"
I only know of one local cannabis company which is looking to list.
The company is called CanbiGold. It is a South African holding company which is first to list on the Canadian Stock Exchange in the next 18 months.
It also looks promising for the company to also have a secondary listing on the ZAR X (South African Stock Exchange).
With the high competition of brokers in South Africa, I'm sure as soon as CanbiGold is listed, they will create a CFD or futures contract for South Africa to invest and trade.
